The University of Alabama at Birmingham, in a bid to be more competitive with schools in other states, is providing DP health benefits to its faculty and staff. The decision to offer the benefits is "earth-shattering" for the mostly red state, according to blogger Pam Spaulding, who describes Alabama as being "definitely behind the eight-ball when comes to LGBT rights.
