Atticus Circle founder Anne Wynne was featured in a recently-published article on the Edge New York website analyzing how the Obama Administration has done in its first year on LGBT issues. Gay marriage, military service, and hate crime protection are all part of the current dialogue on LGBT rights and protections, and the article explores views from myriad leaders in the LGBT rights movement.
Wynne is quoted in the article as saying, "I don’t think the president has failed to keep any promises he made as far as LGBT rights are concerned. Nor has he delayed any promises. There was never a timetable given. The idea that our children have rights that other children do not is especially offensive to me. Having said that, legislative action takes time. We are clearly moving in the right direction."
Though the article does include some critics of Obama, expressing frustration over the pace of legislative action, many in the article, like Wynne, are encouraged by what is possible for LGBT rights over the next few years -- with the recently-passed hate crimes bill seen as a first step toward improvement in the rights and protections afforded to LGBT Americans.
