Illinois joins the list of states that now have an Antibullying Bill. Gov. Pat Quinn is expected to sign the "no-nonsense" bill into law. According to Equality Illinois, the higher-than-average attempted suicide rates of LGBT students show just how urgently this law is needed. Among other characteristics, this law will prohibit bullying based on sexual orientation or gender identity. Read more

Secretary Gates announced the changes today, reiterating his statement back in February that the repeal of the 1993 DADT law is inevitable. Only generals or admirals will now have the authority to initiate fact-finding inquiries, and third-party hearsay and accusations are no longer acceptable. Any accusation will have to come from a credible person sworn under oath.
